John Plousiadenos’s Byzantine Polyphony: Cretans, Venetians, and the Council of Florence – Simeon Brown

Simeon Brown is an M.A. student in Historical Musicology at the University of Connecticut and has previously earned B.M. degrees in Guitar Performance and Music History from the Baldwin Wallace Conservatory of Music. Simeon’s research focuses on fifteenth-century Venetian Crete and explores the topics of power, colonialization, religion, and cultural identity within the context of Byzantine ecclesiastical music. Furthermore, Simeon’s research aims to shed new light within the realm of Byzantine Musicology, particularly concentrating on the relationship between the Greek East and the Latin West during the early modern period. Simeon will be pursuing a P.h.D. in Musicology at Princeton University this fall.
